Cooking with Kids

Have you ever thought of cooking with a child as an amazing learning, entertaining and bonding experience? Whether it’s your own or that of a relative or friend, you can take advantage of the summer to create everlasting memories.
I contributed a post at Culinate on how I used to anticipate the summer holiday every year as a child so I would spend time with my mother in the kitchen. I enjoyed every bit of it: the messes of piled vegetable peel, the water splashes, the clinking of pots, the feeling that I was destined to one day become a woman and cook for my family the way she did. I remember those moments and recipes learned to this day and carry them with me everywhere I go.
Those were truly magical moments for me as a child. That’s why this summer, I am planning to cook with my daughter, create and play, shape dough and color batter; and gradually pass down a beautiful legacy of a culturally rich culinary heritage.

I like that you write about the memories, and sweet feelings associated with cooking. It's about more than just the recipes. I just started on this endeavor to write about cooking; it's both easier, and harder than it seems.
Love this blog!

I have wonderful memories of cooking with my mother and grandmother. That's one of the best things we can pass on to our children.

I love to cook with the kiddos! I get to share something that I enjoy with them and they get to be a part of my expiriments. Miss Lu (8) and Mr. Man (4) are regulars in the kitchen and on my blog. From making pizza to putting a brulee on strawberries have fun!

Being in the kitchen with your parents is one of the most treasured experiences any child can have. Not only does it give you special alone-time with your parents, but it teaches you so many things, both tangible and intangible, that you will remember all your life.

How wonderful. My boys have enjoyed helping since they were little.
Great memories.

Gourmet, good luck with your new blog!
Carolyn, alone time between a parent and a child is very important. What better place than the kitchen to spend that time?

That sounds wonderful Nizrini. I did this a lot when my son was younger.

Il est toujours important de transmettre.
la transmission culinaire est plus facile mère/fille que mère/fils.
A bientôt.

I too can remember many Sunday dinners in the kitchen with my mom amd grandmother with them giving me little chores to help with. Fond memories. I also cooked with my daughter which today has made her an adventurous cook.

Good for you, Nisrine! My mother, grandmother and aunt all taught me in the kitchen. It's so important. All three of my now-grown kids can cook as well as I can!
