Moroccan Spiced Yogurt Dip

A homemade dip is the best accompaniment to chips and vegetables. This Moroccan-inspired one, made with yogurt and spiked with cumin, cayenne, cardamom and coriander, is especially good with fried foods. I particularly like it with fried fish and chicken tenders. It is so easy to make and perfect for entertaining as well as everyday use.

Moroccan Spiced Yogurt Dip Recipe

Makes 1 cup

1 cup plain yogurt (or strained yogurt for a thicker consistency)
1 medium garlic clove, minced or pressed
1/2 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves or finely chopped mint leaves
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/8 teaspoon chili powder
A pinch of cayenne pepper
Sea salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste

Combine all of the ingredients in a bowl. Stir them well to combine the flavors. Serve alongside meats, vegetables or chips. If you’re adventurous, serve it with fruit as well.

This looks delicious – I'd love to try it combined with some chicken skewers.

Have you ever tried Mujaddara, the rice, lentil and sautéed onion dish? This spiced yogurt is nearly identical to the topping for Mujaddara, and a great pairing to be certain! If you haven't had it, I highly recommend… and I'll be borrowing your idea of using this with chicken and fried fish.

    Cheers,

Heather, I've never tried mujaddara but I'm planning to.

Fresh homemade dip is a 100% better than anything store bought. Your yogurt dip is healthy, flavorful and no doubt delicious.

We've developed a bit of an obsession with yoghurt (it's impossible not to!) since we moved to Turkey. Never seen these spices mixed with it though. Sounds gorgeous!

I love the spice combination here and I have just the idea for this dip – how about with baked beet chips? I might give it a shot this weekend!
